In 2014 I was on my way to pretesting every chapter.  Because I have changed to Standards Based (Fall 2016), I have changed the way I am thinking about things.  We now have SLO’s and all of the major concepts are captured in this pretest.  Throughout the semester I am focusing on the standards that are stressed during the SLO’s.  I test every week. If I were to pre-asses with a formal pretest every few standards, all that would be done would be testing.  I now gather my information on what students know through formative assessment.  I do daily warmups and often students leave the class with an exit slip.  I am able to find out where students are at and change my teaching in order for them to show improvement and grow.
