I think my teaching philosophy has changed since the last time I was evaluated. I am feeling a sense of frustration when it comes to standards for our students. We seem to be in a trend where we are not requiring the same rigor or high standards for our students. We are focusing on compassion yet throwing away quality. Our students have far too many excuses and there is no longer a bottom line. In my work with trauma students what we are doing is exactly the opposite of what is needed. We need to face our students with compassion but keep the boundaries and standards high. Consistency is extremely important. this structure provides safety and control for students that come from chaos. I now have honors kids coming in unprepared and believe it is a right for a retake. We are teaching our students that the world revolves around them and that they don’t have to live up to the environmnet they are in but demand the environment lives up to them. I am obviously becoming older in my views and teaching.
